Day 15: 24th March – The Devil made me do it

Today’s trivia:

  • 1981 The ‘Great Train Robber’ Ronnie Biggs was rescued by Barbados police following his kidnapping.
  • 2020 Day one of the government ‘lockdown’ of Britain to try and curb the coronavirus epidemic.
  • 1829 Parliament passed the Roman Catholic Relief Act 1829, allowing Catholics to serve in Parliament.
  • 1603 After 44 years of rule, Queen Elizabeth I of England died. The English and Scottish crowns were united when James VI of Scotland became King James 1st of England.

We are on the top floor of the Gwesty Cymru Hotel and there’s only stairs to it. We have an ocean view🤔🤔🤔🤔

We went to bed at 11pm. I woke up at 2am after a good nights sleep🙏 and didn’t go back to bed.

We took a drive to Devil’s Bridge Waterfalls before the weather set in.

It was free parking but £2pp to see the main water falls on one side and the bridges built on on top of each other on the otherside of the road. £8 in total, but hey,  the parking was free. Whereas yesterday at St David’s, the parking cost us but the cathedral was free!

Punchbowl and the Three Bridges walk . . .

and on the Nature walk trail.

No one mentioned stairs . . .

Long before mobile phones or GPS were available, these sentry boxes provided help for motorists in need. In the United Kingdom, the black-and-yellow boxes of the Automobile Association (AA) were once a common sight. Each wooden sentry box bore plates with a number and its location and offered motorists a lifeline in the form of a telephone or a real-life patrolman, who could help with directions or car trouble. There are just 18 left in existence. We were lucky enough to see Sentry Box No. 289.

We managed to get to the funicular with free parking but a cost to travel on the funicular.

We settled in at the hotel’s bar with beer, wine and nibbles wasting time till dinner.

We’ve now booked the next two lots of accommodation, something unheard of in our usual adventures OS. But we do need to get our act together for the onslaught of the impending Easter loooong weekend.

I’m so grateful to Emirates. They have refunded our OS flights in full, just as they did during covid. Only took 3 weeks from request. This is one reason I fly Emirates. The other is their service is unquestionably way better than ANA, Qantas, JAL, Singapore Airlines, Korean and Qatar that I’ve flown OS on, they are still not bad except for Qantas.

I’m zonked now. Hopefully a good nights sleep and only wake at a decent hour tomorrow.

Today’s travels . . .

Coming soon, I hope once connectivity is regained between garmin aand strava
