Today’s trivia is more on Shetland stuff:

  • Shetland lands more fish than England, Wales, and Northern Ireland combined.
  • It is home to the UK’s first commercial rocket launch site, the Shetland Space Centre on Unst.
  • “Peerie” means small in the local dialect.
  • The Midnight Sun is known as “Simmer Dim,” the period at midsummer when it never truly gets dark.
  • Lerwick became the capital in the 1830s, replacing Scalloway.
  • Wool from native sheep has been used for centuries, with Fair Isle known for its specific knitting technique.

We took a drive to St. Mary’s Chapel and along the way . . .

and a man and his dog doing a bit of training . . .

At the Holes of Scraada . . .

Lots of birds on the cliffs around Eshaness Lighthouse . . .

Heading further north . . .
