Today’s trivia is on York:
- Founded in 71 AD as Eboracum.
- Renamed Jorvik in the 9th century when it was a Viking trade hub.
- In 886 AD, York was briefly considered the capital of England.
- The name evolved from Eboracum to York due to, in part, Norse influence.
- Guy Fawkes, infamous for the 1605 Gunpowder Plot, was born in York.
- York Minster is one of Northern Europe’s largest cathedrals, taking over 250 years to build and featuring the world’s largest area of medieval stained glass.
- The Shambles is renowned as one of the best-preserved medieval streets in Europe, with timber-framed houses that nearly touch across the narrow street.
- York’s city walls is England’s longest and best-preserved medieval town walls, originally built by the Romans.
- Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma-Gate is known as one of the smallest streets in York.
We slept like sleeping dogs.
The sun was shinning, blue skies and a shorts day was on order, so we wondered if we should wander around the town for the day🤔.
I made the mistake of picking the closest laundromat around from the hotel . . .

While the washing was being done and folded we made a B line to the city walls.

While Australia may have been the dumping ground for the English, we got them back . . .


Invented in Australia by a Canadian salesman, Charles Fulford in the 1890s. Despite being exposed as a fraud in 1905, they were sold until the mid 1980s and were a market leader in the UK during the 1930s.

But 2IC didn’t want to upset the chocoholic member of the family, so 2IC sucked me into the river cruise. Seeing not too many people, six plus us, it was OK but has nothing on The Seine!










York seems to be a bit Gothic, lots of people in black, tatoos and shop fronts with . . .




Trying to decide on dined, we quickly crossed off . . .




So we’d opted for the Red Lion bit theynstop.food at 7pm! So second best was the Marzano Italian Grill. It was pretty good and nice old world interior
