Today’s trivia is Portobello Markets:
- The market is named after Portobello Farm, which was named in 1739 to honor a British navy victory at Porto Bello, Panama.
- While it began as a fresh food market in the 19th century, it became famous for antiques and bric-a-brac in the 1940s and 1950s.
- Although open daily (Monday–Saturday), all five sections (antiques, fashion, food, household, second-hand) are only fully open on Saturdays.
- The market appears in the film Notting Hill and is near the famous colored houses on Denbigh Terrace.
- The market is famous for selling silver, Art Nouveau glass, and “peeping tom” walking sticks.
- The market stretches over a mile and a half, starting in Notting Hill and continuing up to Golborne Road.
Yes, it happened again, even though they assured use it had been fixed. The air con came on around midnight. This time called the night staff and the on duty manager came. Turned off the system so couldn’t operate even if wanted to.
We got upgrade (🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔). No longer walking those 168 steps to level 7, now just 46 to level 3, but at least we still get to see George on level two.
We both got on the scales this morning and thank god it said, low battery😱

First stop for the day was the TTB, The Thin Building . . .

Looks very Kensingtonish . . .

Annette said, coffee?

After some several failed train journeys, we finally made it to Little Venice. . .

Lots of Canal boats . . .

The tranquility of the place we experienced ten years ago was lost with the crowds for the long weekend canal festival.
At Paddo station and elsewhere . . .

and then to Portabello, where I thought you could get the mushrooms I love, but no, just . .

The real bookshop for interior shot inspiration is on the left which we didn’t go to. The right photo is where the exterior shots were made. Oh, the power of the camera.
and in Lancaster Road, more of the same . . .

On the underground . . .

Finally an ice chocolate, one with marshmallows, the other with the works, all for a rock bottom price of £18 ($36) . . .

Only 86 steps to our supposedly upgrade and functioning room. I’d already told 2IC, it’s a plus and minuses with next level rooms.
We went from a reasonable sized room with a good sized bathroom with bath and a rainshower with a seat and both room and bathroom having a great view over the Russel Park to a small, tight bedroom with a separate sitting room and a long narrow bathroom with no seat in shower. But we now have two toilets.
Dinner was at the North Sea Fish Restaurant. What a meal, very generous portions and light and refreshing. We liked so much, have booked for Wednesday night, our last bought dinner for a very long time.

We ordered grilled fish, everyone else seemed to order battered for some reason🤔.
